Weekly Update

Research Workshop:
Nearly all students finished the notes and paragraph organizer pages in their rough draft booklets and began their final country books this week.  They are so excited to finally be taking all of the information they collected about their countries and create 6 solid paragraphs that reflect what they have learned.  Students also created a table of contents and used the iPads to collect up-to-date information about their country's population, current leader, primary language, and type of currency.

Math Workshop:
Students continued focusing on multi-digit addition this week and using "proof drawings" as evidence for their answers.  Below is a video that demonstrates the 3 addition methods we teach in 3rd Grade Math Expressions along with some modeling of how to create a "proof drawing."  This is a new concept for both parents and students, so watching his video will help you be able to assist your children more effectively with homework assignments. (Go to 2:25 to skip ahead to the "proof drawings.")

Social Studies:
We finished our region tour of the Southeast, so students used all of the souvenirs that they collected to create scrapbook pages in their regions binders.  They also finished up any travel journals that they did not complete during our travels.  Remember, the Southeast test is on Tuesday!

Students write all of their travel journals in their region binders as we travel.

Here is an example of a student's travel journals from the first 3 tour stops.

Brock works on his scrapbook pages.

Maddie and Devon decorate their scrapbook pages.

Zain shows off his completed scrapbook pages.

Orlando is proud of his work!

Here is an example of some completed Southeast scrapbook pages.

Nanthana and Alex add their Southeast souvenirs.

Audrey adds labels to her souvenirs.

Abigail loves adding borders and captions to her pages.

Dictionary Day!
Each year the Troy Kiwanis Club visits each third grade class in the district to present all students with their own dictionary.  The students were excited to receive the dictionaries and take them home to keep!
